Sunday Gems #6 - Life Without Distractions

Hello Reader

It's been a quiet two days for me. There was no WiFi, and I found myself at a loss, at first, as to what to do to occupy myself. I realised how reliant I am on an internet connection to entertain, educate or enjoy myself. Most of what I do requires an internet connection, such as Whatsapp messaging friends, attending live virtual meet-ups, following workouts, learning about drawing, and so on.

I had to readjust my hobbies and past times to more traditional means. Internet access, not so long ago, wasn't a mainstream thing. Yet, we still thrived and enjoyed life. To connect with loved ones, we used traditional messaging apps that require no internet, called people or left voice messages or wrote letters and sent them via mail. We met people in person whenever we could. We walked or ran and danced to work out or made our own routines. We learned the basic skills by reading physical textbooks, finding tutors or attending workshops.

I guess these past two days without the distraction of the internet reminded me how resourceful, inventive and capable we are. A life without distractions. This is my reminder to slow down, use my own initiative more and spend time doing things offline too. Maybe Reader, it's a reminder for you too?

🧠Mind Shift - Nuggets of Wisdom

If we are paying attention to our lives, we’ll recognize those defining moments. The challenge for so many of us is that we are so deep into daily distractions and β€˜being busy, busy’ that we miss out on those moments and opportunities that – if jumped on – would get our careers and personal lives to a whole new level of wow. – Robin S. Sharma
Don’t be on your deathbed someday, having squandered your one chance at life, full of regret because you pursued little distractions instead of big dreams. – Derek Sivers
If you want success and wealth, then stop spending too much time on cyber world. ― Ehabib

Hello Reader Happy December. I know it's been a while. But a lot was happening and I needed to step away from the writing and publishing to sort things out. You can read all about it in my latest blog post here. While I've been away dealing with the chaos that life can be, I've come to some realisations. I have some abandonment and control issues Probably from poorly developed attachment style I need to learn to let go and accept the flow of life or I'll drive myself crazy and push my loved...

Hello Reader Sometimes I wonder if it is better to be less trusting of people and keep them at distance. If you're someone who sees the good in others, this is not a bad thing, in my opinion, but it can leave you wide open to schemes of untrustworthy people. Yet, being immediately distrusting of others can cause you to miss out on good relationships or opportunities. Finding a balance between trust too much or too little would be helpful. But, what causes us to trust people readily, even if...

Hello Reader Sometimes, when you have no idea what to write, it is best to start and let whatever words want to come flow out of you without overthinking things too much. Even though I feel much more inspired, motivated and creative, I still struggle to get the words out. Hmmm, not so much the words, but the content. What do I want to write about? What should I write about? Would you, my audience be interested in this topic or feel engaged listening to me rambling on about my life or creative...
