Sunday Gems #4: The Art of How the Heck To Get Out Of A Slump

Published over 1 year ago • 4 min read

Hello Reader

Do you know those times in life when everything feels chaotic, your life feels disorganised, your mind cluttered, your energy low, like nothing satisfies you and you're stuck in a tornado with everything up in the air?

Yeah, well, me too. It sucks.

It's like everything you do feels insignificant, and you find yourself browsing the internet looking for solutions, but all you end up is more confused and disheartened. Somewhere along the way, you lost touch with the things that give you joy, and now you're left trying to figure out how the heck to get out of this rut.

You finally get the new position you want at work, feel excited for a while and then anxiety and doubt kicks in. You move out to find peace of mind, but you feel uneasy. You spend hours each day looking up how to improve your life but still don't know what the heck to do anymore.

Why did you stop doing that thing every week that you enjoy anyway?

So now your lost, confused and bored, what do you do? You decide it's time to rekindle a childhood passion and start a new challenge to get you going again. Hopefully, you'll find yourself along the way. After all clarity comes from action, not thought (or endlessly researching and planning).

______________

Sorry, it's been a weird week, and I'm trying to find my happy place. Since I haven't felt like blogging or doing much in-depth journaling, you are currently my pen pal.

I need to shake off this negative energy and block that has me in such a slump. The only way to motivate me again is to take action and build momentum. As such, I've decided to do the Project 50 lifestyle challenge.

Project 50 Lifestyle Challenge

For the next 50 days, I will be making the following seven habits a part of my daily life:

Habit 1: Wake up before 8:00 am (get at least 6 hours of sleep and build a consistent bedtime routine)

Habit 2: Have a 1 hour morning routine (no distractions, i.e. social media, make time for mindfulness and gentle movement)

Habit 3: Workout for 1 hour based on your fitness level (this can be any activity such as running, walking, yoga, strength training, dancing, whatever works for you).

Habit 4: Read 10 pages of a motivational, psychological, business-related, self-improvement book.

Habit 5: Learn a new skill for 1 hour (no distractions, deep focus)

Habit 6: Follow a healthy diet (whatever diet works for you. It's not about losing weight and taking part in diet culture but nourishing your body with a balanced meal. Include no alcohol, soft drinks & less sugar. Stay hydrated)

Habit 7: Track your progress. Note your positive and negative experiences, mood, energy, mindset, etc.

🧠Mind Shift - Nuggets of Wisdom

"someone can throw you in chains, but they don’t have the power to change who you are. Even under the worst torture and cruelties that humans can inflict on one another, our power over our own mind and our power to make our own decisions can’t be broken—only relinquished." - The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday. September 06th Reading.
“Consider who you are. Above all, a human being, carrying no greater power than your own reasoned choice, which oversees all other things, and is free from any other master.” EPICTETUS, DISCOURSES, 2.10.1
"Your hidden power is your ability to use reason and make
choices, however limited or small." - The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday. September 07th Reading.
"When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny." - Paulo Coelho

Hello Reader Happy December. I know it's been a while. But a lot was happening and I needed to step away from the writing and publishing to sort things out. You can read all about it in my latest blog post here. While I've been away dealing with the chaos that life can be, I've come to some realisations. I have some abandonment and control issues Probably from poorly developed attachment style I need to learn to let go and accept the flow of life or I'll drive myself crazy and push my loved...

Hello Reader Sometimes I wonder if it is better to be less trusting of people and keep them at distance. If you're someone who sees the good in others, this is not a bad thing, in my opinion, but it can leave you wide open to schemes of untrustworthy people. Yet, being immediately distrusting of others can cause you to miss out on good relationships or opportunities. Finding a balance between trust too much or too little would be helpful. But, what causes us to trust people readily, even if...

Hello Reader Sometimes, when you have no idea what to write, it is best to start and let whatever words want to come flow out of you without overthinking things too much. Even though I feel much more inspired, motivated and creative, I still struggle to get the words out. Hmmm, not so much the words, but the content. What do I want to write about? What should I write about? Would you, my audience be interested in this topic or feel engaged listening to me rambling on about my life or creative...
